Jumble, 24D, wingDing

As per plan the session started with an ice breaking session. The icebreaking session consisted of three main activities. First we started with an activity called “Jumble”. All of them were grouped in teams of two or three member, and were given a bunch of shuffled letters which conveyed the mission of CHRIST (Deemed to be University).

Second activity consisted of code/puzzle crack, the activity was called as “24D”. We were shuffled and reteamed into two or three member teams, and were given ten puzzles to crack. It was a time bound activity. Most of the words were easily guessable however one was very tricky and was placed in-order to trick the participants.

Waves

We were given a sheet of paper on which we were asked to write our name and from whom we draw inspiration. We were also told to write our strengths and weakness. A short video of a beach, with wave continuously striking the shore was shown. We are asked to imagine that we were standing there with wave’s striking the rock, a light house by the side, dragon flies flying over the waves. Crabs on the sea shore, trying to get back into the sea, when they were being, washed back on the shore. We were asked to write some of the qualities that the scenery pose, so inspiration from each thing we saw.

Jenta Tower

This was a team building activity. We were asked to build a tower using Jenga blocks. There were three rounds, after every round few of the team members were eliminated. In the first round each team was given 45 secs to build the tallest tower. In the subsequent rounds the timing was reduced. Some of the vital contribution to a team might not always come from the team leaders themselves was the learning.

Traits of a Leader

During this activity we were asked to identify the traits of three leaders from India. It was a group activity and we were divided into four teams. Each team was given the same topic and the same time to prepare and speak about these leaders. The three leaders inconsideration were Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Reliance Group chairman Mukesh Ambani. We understood that the determination, perseverance, strong conviction can make a common man an effective leader. We also understood the importance of public speaking as it plays a key role in making a leader a true leader.

Paper Bridge

In this activity we were again shuffled into three teams, with two selected leaders in each group.  The aim was to build a paper bridge out of newspapers and tape, as long as possible but at the same time strong enough to hold two mobile phones on top.  The time limit for this activity was 10 minutes and was considered as a precursor to the “Building from Scratch” activity.

Walk Around

Unlike the previous activities this was more of an individual activity.  We were asked to move around the room silently imagining we were in certain places/situations.  For Eg we were asked to walk around imagining we were in a market, a library, a holy place etc.

Scene Enacting

For this activity we again went back to the teams selected for the paper bridge activity.  For this activity each team was given a different scene/situation and each of the team members should silently be in a statue position such that, looking at all the positions of the team member’s one could identify the scene. The key attributes of this activity included planning, quick thinking, and team communication. This activity also aimed at reducing stage fear.
Some of the scenes enacted included that of a railway station, flower market, flat tyre, a court room etc.

Sell the Cow

This was a team building activity which not only stressed on our abilities to think logically but also how to effectively express our thoughts.  A problem of a set of back and forth transactions between two parties was given, and each of the teams were supposed to figure out and explain which party got how much profit/loss.

Building From Scratch

This was the final activity of the day were the three teams were asked to build three airplanes out of the materials allotted to them.  This was more of a creative team building activity where the stress was on leadership, planning, division of labor, resourcefulness etc.
